Why we love it
This gallery has a heartbeat. You feel it the moment you walk in – the calm, the care, the curiosity. Madeline has created a space that removes the intimidation often associated with galleries. Instead, it’s welcoming, unhurried and full of work that feels real and considered. It’s one of Orange’s most loved creative spaces, and a testament to what regional galleries can be.

We heard from Madeline Young, the artist and curator behind The Corner Store Gallery, about what drives her, what she cares about, and the heart behind the space she’s built.
“I’ve always wanted the gallery to feel welcoming – a place where people can walk in without feeling intimidated or unsure. I care deeply about originality, about work that feels honest and considered. Supporting emerging artists is a huge part of why I do this, and bringing them together with more established artists is one of my favourite things. I love seeing artists build each other up. I love seeing people discover art they connect with.
A lot of that comes from growing up here in Orange and spending my life around art. I’ve seen how much creativity exists in the regions, and how often it goes unseen. That’s why accessibility matters so much to me – I want people to feel like this space is theirs, whether they’re artists or not.
And I love that this little building – once a corner store I visited as a kid – is now a space where creativity feels accessible to everyone.”
