Why we love it
The flavours are rich, punchy, and full of personality. The team back regional produce, deliver locally, and yes… their gelato goodness can be purchased in TUBS. Run, don’t walk. Spilt Milk has a loyal Bathurst following too — people regularly drive over, load up on tubs, and take them home in a 1.5L foam esky (local intel, you’re welcome).
Meet the maker
We heard from owner, Sarah, to hear a little more about Spilt Milk Bar…
We opened Spilt Milk Bar almost seven years ago, and the Orange community has shown us the most incredible support since the very first day. I wanted to create something that showcased the beautiful produce we have in this region.
I took myself off to Gelato University in Italy, learnt how to make proper gelato, then came home and practiced until the recipes were perfect! We’ve had nine core flavours since the day we opened – Honeycomb, Nutella, Pistachio, Hazelnut, Salted Caramel, Milk Chocolate, Vanilla, Spilt Milk, and Dark Chocolate Sorbet – because it’s nice to know your favourite will always be here. Alongside those, we run six rotating specials every week, always seasonal and always inspired by what’s tasting best locally.
Over the years we’ve created so many flavours using local ingredients – saffron, pepperberries, hot cross buns, honey, Junee licorice, olive oil, fig leaves, cumquats from local Italian men… all sorts of beautiful, unexpected things. That creativity has always been part of who we are.
We churn seven days a week – around 60,000kg a year! – which still feels crazy to say.
Spilt Milk has always been about real ingredients, local partnerships, and making gelato with personality and purpose. As for the name… there’s no big story. We went through a million options and just needed something that didn’t take itself too seriously.
