John Cousins Walking Track, Bathurst
Boundary Road Reserve is Bathurst's most significant patch of remnant native bush right on the edge of town, and most people drive past it without knowing it’s there! Enter through Vietnam Veterans Park off the Mid Western Highway and you are into 80 hectares of restored bushland that the local Landcare group has been quietly bringing back to life for years.
The John Cousins Walking Track is a 3.5km walk – about an hour at a gentle pace, well maintained and suitable for most fitness levels. The Robin Hill section adds a little more distance if you want to keep going, with shaded rest spots and benches along the way.
Why we love it
120 bird species. Several mobs of kangaroos. And the kind of stillness that’s genuinely hard to find five minutes from town. Bring binoculars if you have them, but honestly, just being in it is enough. Good for kids, good for beginners, good for dogs – and very good for a Tuesday morning when you need to remember why you live here. Also incredible for bird and wildlife photography.
