Golden Poplars, Meadow Flat

About 30kms from Lithgow, Curly Dick Road transforms into a tunnel of brilliant golden poplars every April. Tall, elegant trees, deep amber light, and the kind of scene that makes you pull over and just stand there for a moment.

Go early, go on a weekday, and if the crowds aren’t your thing head to Diamond Swamp Road nearby for almost the same display with almost nobody else on it. Free, beautiful, and worth every kilometre.

Why we love it

It’s free, it’s close, and it only happens once a year. The kind of place you stumble on and immediately want to tell everyone about (then quietly hope they don’t all show up at once)! Perfect for a solo reset, a slow morning with a friend, or anyone who needs a reminder that the Central West does Autumn better than anywhere.
