Bathurst River Café, Bathurst

Bathurst River Café sits right on the banks of the Macquarie-Wambuul River in Kelso, exactly where you want to land after a morning walk around the water. Garden tables, timber chairs, and a relaxed pace that makes you want to stay longer than planned.

It's owned by Maggie, who's no stranger to Bathurst hospitality. She made her name running Maggie's Café on William Street in her early twenties, and Bathurst River Café is what came next, fresh, simple, beautifully presented food, now with a river view attached. Her homemade cakes are still the thing people talk about.

Why we love it

The energy here is just right. When we went, the garden had music drifting through it, that old-school, easy kind that suits an afternoon with nowhere to be. Sitting outside with a good coffee and that soundtrack creates a little pocket of calm that's hard to find anywhere else in town.
